29th – 31st March, 2019: National Law University Odisha Moot Society organized its 6th NLUO Bose & Mitra Co. International Maritime Arbitration Moot 2019

The 6th NLUO Bose & Mitra Co. International Maritime Arbitration Moot (IMAM) 2019 was a grand success in its entirety. The 6th Edition of NLUO IMAM was sponsored by Bose & Mitra & Co. as its title sponsor. Giving new horizons to the competition, a panel discussion in collaboration with Centre for Maritime Law, NLUO was also conducted on the topic of “Emerging Regime on Maritime Law in India”. The panel comprised of eminent personalities and experts in the field of Maritime Law like Capt. Ashok Mahapatra, Director (Retd.), Maritime Safety Division, International Maritime Organization (United Nations), Senior Advocate VJ Mathew, Chairman, Kerala State Maritime Board & Managing Partner, VJ Mathew & Co., Mr. Pallab Das, Faculty, Maritime Law, MCIArb (London) & AAIADR (Malaysia) and Mr. Deven Chaudhary, Shipping Claim Analyst, Scorpio Marine Management Ltd., Mumbai (Drafter of Moot Proposition of IMAM, 2019).

This edition of NLUO IMAM has witnessed a stunning performance by twenty-five universities including all the premier law colleges of the country. Teams were judged by the acclaimed panel of judges having expertise in the field of maritime law and arbitration. The semi-final and final rounds of the competition witnessed the presence of esteemed legal luminaries in the field of Maritime Law like Mr. Amitava Majumdar (Managing Partner, Bose & Mitra & Co.), Mr. Hari Narayana (Partner, United Maritime Law Chambers), Mr. Joy Thattil Ittoop (Managing Partner, Callidus Legal), Mr. Sunip Sen (Advocate, High Court of Bombay) etc.

The valedictory ceremony was presided by Hon’ble Justice K.S. Jhaveri, Chief Justice, High Court of Odisha and Chancellor of the University. In his presence, the result of the 3-days competition was declared. Symbiosis Law School, Pune was adjudged as the winner of the competition and was felicitated with prize money of Rs. 35,000/- and 3 internship slots at Bose & Mitra & Co. Government Law College, Mumbai was adjudged the Runners-up of the competition and was awarded prize money of Rs. 25,000/- and 3 internship slots at Bose & Mitra & Co. The Best Speaker Award was bagged by Mr. Priyanshu Jain of NLSIU, Banglore with an internship opportunity at Scorpio Marine Management Ltd., Mumbai and the citation of the Best Memorial was bagged by Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University, Lucknow.
