“NOT ME BUT YOU”

ABOUT   NATIONAL SOCIAL SERVICE (NSS)
National Service Scheme (NSS) was launched in the year 1969 by the Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports for promoting the development of character and personality of young students through voluntary community service. Students from Schools, Technical institutions, Graduate and Post Graduate courses are covered within its ambit. Since its inception it has   benefitted  more than 7.4 crore students from over 657 Universities and 51 +2 Councils and Directorates covering thousands colleges and institutions and Senior Secondary  Schools.
The Motto of NSS is “Not Me But You” which signifies the spirit of selfless service for others. Every   youth  who volunteers to  serve  community   under NSS has  to wear the NSS badge with pride and a sense of responsibility towards serving others.  The NSS badge depicts the Konark wheel with 8 bars, where each bar represents 1 Prehar. One Prehar equals to 3 hours. In other words a NSS volunteer has to be ready for service round the clock i.e. 24 hours. Red colour in the badge represents   energy and spirit displayed by the NSS volunteers. The Blue colour represents the cosmos of which the NSS is a small part, being eveready in service of humanity.
