Valedictory Ceremony of 1st NLUO PHFI Public Health Law Moot Court Competition 2021

The valedictory session of our four day long first Public Health Moot Court Competition organised in association with the Public Health Foundation of India will be held on 27th June from 6.30 pm onwards. 62 teams from?ational Law Universities, Central and State Government Universities Law Departments, Private Law Universities and?Law Colleges spread across?he length and breadth of the country?ompeted with each other for four days.?They argued at length?on the issue of?strong>compulsory vaccination and immunity to vaccine developers?nd manufacturers?long with ancillary issues of federalism in the context of Public Health. They were judged by a panel of esteemed judges composed?of distinguished advocates, including senior advocates , law firm partners?nd associates, in-house counsels, government counsels, independent legal researchers and public health experts.?/p>

Please join tomorrow i.e. 27th June from 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm as we move towards the close of this grand competition and announce the results of winners of the competition, best speaker and best written submissions.?/p>

Centre for Public Health Law, National Law University Odisha in association with the?strong>Public Health Foundation of India?s organizing the first Public Health Law Moot Competition?rom?4 June 2021 to 27 June 2021.?6 teams have registered with us from across the country for this competition. The moot aims to?span style=”color: #151515;”>cudgel the young minds on important contemporary Public Health Law concerns and make them think and research about various nitty-gritties of byzantine legal rules and principles that form the bedrock of the public health apparatus The purpose of this moot is to generate a debate on the?ssues of compulsory?accination and legality of immunity to vaccine manufacturers.

The inaugural will be on 24th June, 2021 from 10.30 am to 11. 00 am and will be presided over by?/span>

National Law University Odisha is organizing a ‘Faculty Development Programme on Research Methodology and Teaching Methods’ for its teaching staff from 16th June 2021 to 29th June 2021. This programme adopts an experiential methodology to maximize the facilitation of capacity building of the faculty members. In the sessions on research methodology, in addition to lectures and discussion sessions with resource persons, the faculty members will be sharing specific research proposals drafted by them and solicit direct feedback on various aspects of their research activities. Theory of research methodology will be integrated into its practical implementation in all the sessions. For the sessions on teaching methods, all faculty members will be conducting model classes highlighting their preferred pedagogical approach. The discussion on different teaching methods will be anchored through these model classes which will help the faculty members relate to the methodological nuances in a more meaningful manner.

Reputed scholars and law and teachers with decades of experience will be joining as resources persons for this programme.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, 2021, the Centre for Research and Management of Natural Resources (CRAMON) in collaboration with the Jal Shakti Board of our University has organised a guest talk on 5th June, 2021 (Saturday) at 12.30 pm.
Mr. Ranjan Panda, a water activist, President awardee and popularly known as Waterman of Odisha.?r. Panda works with grassroot communities in water and climate?hange projects and carries out campaigns in the name of Water Initiatives and Combat Climate Change Network. In his 40 minutes long talk, Mr. Panda will be sharing about his campaigns, advocacy efforts and journalistic pursuits in the field?f climate change. This will be followed?y an open interaction with the resource?erson.

IST?with Professor Raman Mittal as our esteemed resource person for the event.

Online Education and Challenges to Copyright Law ‘

Education has been revitalised?or in essence revolutionised in the way the delivery mechanisms have functioned, especially in the pandemic world. With classes moving online, onuses on legal research now delve upon the questions of the viability of copyright laws and its applications in terms of the education that is provided to the students worldwide in the online medium. Be it on the recorded lectures, materials and other mediums shared. With a growing debate and exploration of this area there certainly lies the ability for discourse and dissemination.

With eminent researchers in copyright law, we believe that the webinar works as an extensive and discursive academic forum for the engagement of concerned students, practitioners and academicians on this topic.

About the Speaker: <

For the webinar session, we are joined by Professor Raman Mittal, currently the Professor-in-Charge of Campus Law Centre, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. Prof. Mittal has had an illustrious career working at various institutions of prominence throughout India, including the Indian law Institute as well as practicing at the Winthrop Stimson Putnam and Roberts Law firm based out of the USA. He is a University Gold Medalist in Masters from Panjab University and has a Ph.D. from Panjab University as well. He has also completed his M.S.S. from the International Space University France. Prof. Mittal has done his postdoctoral from the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition, Munich. He has published his work extensively in various international and national journals, and has been the editor in multiple editorial boards for journals. He speaks widely on issues which are?prominent in the world and India within his research interests, including Intellectual Property Rights, Contracts, Licensing, Banking, Insurance and International Laws. Prof. Mittal also visits multiple institutions of prominence around the world in the capacity of an academic visitor. He has also advised the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India in treaty negotiations and was also one of the members of the Indian Delegation to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) for the purpose?of negotiating international treaties related to copyright laws. Prof. Mittal has also worked in the Drafting Committee working towards the drafting of the Indian Copyright Rules, 2013.

About the Webinar<

Odisha is the state with the second-highest percentage of tribal population in India and has seen the waxing and waning of Naxalite movement. In furtherance of the objectives of our centre to foster discussion, we wish to critically analyse how the lives of tribal communities have been affected in and around?disha. The sociological and legal aspects will be dealt with in detail.

About the Speakers<

Dr. Debendra Kumar Biswal.<
Dr. Debendra Biswal is an Associate Professor at Central University of Jharkhand. He holds Ph. D. in Anthropology from University of Delhi and completed his M. Phil from JNU. His area of interest lies in Legal Anthropology, Tribal Unrest, Customary Law, Human Rights, Tribal Medical Anthropology, and Environment and Health. He also holds a law degree. Dr. Biswal expertises in Customary and Tribal Justice, Human Rights and Tribal People in India, and Socio-legal Research Methodology.

Dr. Kapila Khemundu.<
Dr. Kapila Khemundu is an Associate Professor and Head In-charge of the Department of Sociology, Central University of Odisha, Koraput. He is a Ph. D. holder and also has done M. Phil in Sociology. His area of interest lies in Sociological Theories and Methodologies, Social Change and Development, Tribal Studies, and Social Movements. His research area expands to Sociology of Crime and Deviance.
