ABOUT CIPAM:
Cell for IPR Promotion and Management (CIPAM) is a professional body under the aegis of the Department for Promotion of industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). It ensures a focused action on issues related to IPRs and addresses the 7 identified objectives as a policy. CIPAM assists in simplifying and streamlining IP processes, apart from undertaking steps for furthering IPR awareness, commercialization, and enforcement.
?/span>Its objectives are to undertake:
?implifying and streamlining IP processes by formulating and implementing a focused strategy for each policy objective
- ?oordination with State level agencies and Ministries/ Departments of the Government of India, industry bodies as well as international agencies; IP cells to be set up

?PR awareness campaign across the country in schools, colleges/universities, and the industry

?raining and sensitization programs for enforcement agencies and Judiciary; coordination for effective enforcement of IPR rights.

RESOURCE PERSONS FOR THE EVENT:
?/span>Mr. Dhruv Maingi, Director, Netrika.?/span>
?/span>Dhruv Maingi is the Co-Founder and Director of Netrika, a global leader in risk mitigation and integrity management services, operating in emerging and frontier markets. In his role, he takes care of the Netrika Consulting Pvt. Ltd. Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Division, spearheading its brand protection and business intelligence departments.?/span>
?/span>After earning a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology from Amity University, he pursued an Executive Program in Business Management from IIM-Calcutta. Carrying over ten years of rich experience on his back, he began his investigation career in 2008-09 at Assiduous Consultant. He went on to work for Pinkerton in 2011 before joining Netrika in 2013.
As a veteran investigator with expertise in fraud investigations, cyber surveillance, and forensics, he is frequently called to speak at industry-relevant conferences across the globe. He also shares a numinous connection with his profession; on account of a happy coincidence. He often finds himself speaking at conferences on the same day he celebrates his birthday – April 26, which also happens to be World Intellectual Property Day.
Ms. Sonal Chhablani, Senior Associate
Ms. Chhablani is currently working as a Senior Associate at Saikrishna & Associates. She graduated from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in 2013 and pursued her LL.M in Intellectual property and technology law from the National University of Singapore. Since her joining Sai Krishna Associates, she has been a member of the firm’s litigation practice having expertise in copyright and trademark law. She has represented clients including various MNCs before most higher legal institutions including the Supreme Court, High Court, and other tribunals. She was recognized as a Rising Star in India and was awarded by Managing IP – consecutively for the years 2019 and 2020.

The Centre for Film Studies is organizing a One-Day Workshop on the Theme, ‘Addressing Social And Legal Issues Through Popular Media’, inviting the famous actor, entrepreneur and social worker Mr. Nigel Akkara< as the Resource Person.
About The Workshop<
Traditionally, art has been an accessible media instrument for communication. In the case of popular arts like films or dramas that heavily influence popular culture, the impact it can have is manifold. It acts as a mirror of the society with conformist as well as defiant voices. Sometimes, popular art goes beyond entertainment and portrays many social and legal issues, leading the society and social workers to move forward.
The aim of this workshop is to learn and understand how popular media addresses different social and legal issues by bringing the representation of the marginalised population against stigmatisation to the forefront. The workshop, thus, is?specially focussing on the importance of Cultural Therapy as a major instrument in?reformation and rehabilitation of marginalised populations and its contribution in research and academics. Hence, inviting students, scholars?and academicians of law, social sciences, literature, film studies,?and other humanities streams for this innovative event.?/span>

“Inauguration of “NLUO Mediation Cell”: India’s first Institutional-run Mediation Cell.”

The Centre for Mediation and Negotiation (CMN), NLUO is delighted to announce that the Centre is all prepared to start the NLUO Mediation Cell, which is the first of its kind in India. The NLUO Mediation Cell at the National Law University Odisha will be inaugurated by Hon’ble Dr. Justice S. Muralidhar, Chancellor, NLUO & Chief Justice, High Court of Orissa on 15th August 2022 in the presence of Prof. Ved Kumari, Vice-Chancellor, NLUO and Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Pratap Singh, Registrar, NLUO.
The NLUO Mediation Cell is the first institutional-run mediation cell in India to provide live-mediation services (both private and court-referred mediation). With this initiative, NLUO is striving hard to achieve the constitutional goal of access to justice and free legal aid. NLUO, with the establishment of NLUO Mediation Cell, is also not far from achieving the SDG 16 under UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030, i.e., Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
The NLUO Mediation Cell would be handling multifarious legal disputes including family, matrimonial, property, land and consumer disputes through mediation with the help of faculties-cum-trained mediators, and is looking forward to collaborate with other centres at NLUO and other organisations around. CMN acknowledges the efforts of the Legal Aid Society and the Pro-Bono Club for organising CMN’s first joint outreach drive to create awareness about the resolution of disputes through mediation amongst the masses.
At the beginning, the Cell will focus on people from nearby places and will gradually extend to the whole state and provide free mediation services both physically and virtually through Online Dispute Resolution (ODR).
“14th Intra-University Moot Court Competition (IUMCC) Phase I, 2022.”

The IUMCC is a bi-annual internal moot organized by the Moot Society of NLUO, which entails written submission and oral presentation rounds. Students of NLUO, participate in the internal moot to be eligible to participate in national/international moots in the pool of IUMCC moots. Thus, IUMCC forms a very important co-curricular activity and is the cornerstone of NLUO’s thriving mooting culture and its stupendous performance in various moots across India.
The Phase I of the 14th edition of IUMCC is scheduled?o be held on?strong>August 12th – 14th, 2022. Across these three days, participants of IUMCC undergo rigorous and extensive oral presentation rounds before an acclaimed panel of judges, who are acclaimed professionals?in the subject area.

“State Level Consultation on Draft National Policy for Persons with Disabilities”

About the Event:
?/strong>The Centre for Disability Law and Advocacy (CDLA), National Law University Odisha, is organising a “State Level Consultation on Draft National Policy for Persons with Disabilities”, jointly with the Odisha Association for the Blind and the Child & Women Development Society on 8 August 2022 from 3:30 pm.
The guest speakers who will be gracing us on this occasion are Mr. Sannyashai Kumar Behera, Major Dr. Kalpana Das and Dr. Rina Routray.
About the Key Speakers:
- Sannyashai Kumar Behera, the first Visually Impaired OAS officer, is now working as the Under Secretary to the Government in the Department of Social Security and Empowerment of Person with Disabilities, Government of Odisha. He is also the President of Odisha Association for the Blind.
- Major Dr. Kalpana Das has received awards from the Red Cross conferred by the Honourable President of India Sri Pranab Mukherjee. Major Das is the only woman of the State of Odisha having received the National Award – Rakhya Mantri Commendation Card & Director General Commendation Card 5 (Five) times. She is presently serving as an Advocate in the Odisha High Court, as a Syndicate Member of Ramadevi Women’s University, and Chairman, CWDS, (Child & Women Development Society, Bhubaneswar).
- Rina Routray has established Odisha’s first women’s only trade union in Paradeep, incubated more than 150 women self-help groups in the northern and coastal regions of the State and created an empowered brigade of more than 30,000 trained women mentors. She has also served as the President for Women’s Organisation for Socio-Cultural Awareness (WOCSA), a non-profit run by and for women. She has also previously worked as a Regional Volunteer with the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) on their Green Rating Network projects where she had to conduct pollution assessment studies on factories and power plants along the industrial belt of the state. Dr. Routray also started the Mahila Adhikaar Abhiyaan (MAA) in 2016.

- Advocate Pankaj Sinha is one of the most prominent Disability Rights lawyers in India.
- He is a Senior Advocate at the Supreme Court of India.
- He has represented the International Jurist Organisation (IJO) in the UN Department of Public Information 58th Annual DPI / NGO Conference in 2005.
- He has also represented IJO in the annual meeting of Academic Council United Nations System (ACUNS), 2005.
- He has also been a Panelist in a Conference held in Berlin, Germany on “Borders, Otherness and Public Law”.
- He has been associated with an NGO named “PACE” which is actively contributing in the field of education and health.
- He has also edited a book named “Indian Laws Protecting Children ” based on juveniles published by the Human Rights Law Network (HRLN).
Details of the Session:
It will be an hour-long session. The session will be held physically where students of the University will get to interact with Senior Advocate Pankaj Sinha. The students will get a special opportunity to ask questions and learn from the guest about his various experiences and challenges in the legal field.
