2nd?dition of the ILPS Essay Writing Competition
About ILPS
The ILPS has been established to provide through research, working papers, publications, seminars, conferences, projects, and engagement, a platform for intellectual dialogue on contemporary issues of international law and foreign policy. The emphasis of this society will be on public international law, international affairs, and foreign policies of different countries. The society aims to engage with various stakeholders such as scholars, universities, policymakers, think tanks, and intergovernmental organizations. It provides students from different law universities the opportunity to publish their blogs and articles on international laws and policies on our distinguished website.
About the Competition
While the world is divided by borders, the geopolitical happenings of countries in the contemporary era of globalisation continue to impact all international players. The International law and Policy Society at NLUO, recognising the fact that ideas and opinions are bulletproof and must flow across borders brings forth the present Essay Writing Competition with an aim to encourage law and policy-oriented discourse around the numerous issues of international importance and India’s stance towards these issues.?/p>
Eligibility
This competition is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students from all disciplines. Submissions from Scholars, Academicians, Journalists, Policy Makers, Research Scholars, and NGOs are also welcome. The maximum number of Co- authors is limited to 02.

Guidelines
- The submission shall be the original work of the author dealing with public international law and foreign policy. The submissions must focus on current developments in these fields and must be analytical in nature.
- A maximum similarity of 10% is allowed. Non-adherence to this rule shall result in the rejection of the article summarily.
- The submission must have a clear and concise structure along with clear Headings and sub-headings.
- A submission should have 1000 to 1200 words.?/li>
- The manuscripts must be in “docx” format. The text must be in?strong>Times New Roman,?/strong>have 1.5 line spacing, font size 12 and justified.
- Citations should be given in the hyperlinks.
- The file name of the Submission should be the title of the Essay.
Submissions failing to meet the above-mentioned doctrines will be rejected.

This Diwali, the IDIA Odisha Chapters’ Legal Services Team organized an event to celebrate the housekeeping staff of our university, who do so much to keep our college spick and span. The event named, ‘Asha ra Jyoti,’ meaning Lights of Hope, was conducted on October 23, 2022. The event was a great success and the afternoon was filled with music, smiles, and laughter.?The student body put-up an amazing show, with their wonderful display of dances, singing performances, and plays.
The event started with cultural performances and was followed by games for the housekeeping fraternity and staff. A play titled, ‘Nithalle ki Diary,’ was put on by the students about a young man and his everyday adventures. Students danced to Sambalpuri and other Odia folk songs. In addition, there were a couple of lovely singing performances. The staff appreciated and thoroughly enjoyed the performances and the room was filled with cheering and applause. After the performances by the students, a game of musical chairs was played which filled the room with joy and laughter. Prizes were also given to the top 3 winners in the game.
Snacks and refreshments were provided at the end for all the masis and volunteers. The event for the staff served as an escape from their busy routines and a celebration for those who work hard all year round.

The Centre for Women and Law (CWL), National Law University, Odisha (NLUO) in collaboration with National Commission for Women organised a National Seminar on Women Police Station/Mahila Thanas (Working, Efficiency and Effectiveness) on 28th October 2022.The inaugural session consisted of a speech by Ms.Manjari Jaruhar, Rtd. IPS, Advisor to Tata Consultancy Services.
The seminar post the inaugural session was divided into three sessions; Panel Discussion, Key Note Address by Dr. Kiran Bedi and third session of Paper Presentations. The Panel Discussion was chaired by eminent dignitaries: Ms. Manjari Jaruhar, Rtd. IPS, Tata Consultancy Services; Ms. Rekha Lohani, IPS, Additional. Commissioner. Of Police (Bbsr- Ctc); Ms. Rashmi Rekha Baug, Co- Director, CWL, NLUO; Ms. Anusuya Nayak, Mahila Thana I/c, Cuttack; Ms. Durgeshwari, Dy. Mahila Thana I/c, Bhubaneshwar; Ms, Santoshini Behera, Mahila Thana I/c Bhubaneswar, Mr. Sushil Kumar Ray, Retd. District Judge and Registrar of Odisha State Commission for Women, and Ms. Rosaline Sahoo from MADHYAM. A research team comprising of students namely: Research Team of Centre for Women and Law comprising of : Ms. Jayanti Jaya, Ms. Amreen Anwar, Ms. Sparsha S., Ms. Pavanta Arya, Ms. Pratha Barla and Ms. Jahnavi Bhattathipad. They were assisted by Ms. Himani Jaruhar, Mr. Tanmay Mishra, Mr. Rohan Patnaik, Ms. Aditi Sinha from NLUO brought together by CWL, NLUO, also presented their research work on Women Police Station/Mahila Thanas (Working, Efficiency and Effectiveness) to the audience.
The second session consisted of an Open House discussion with Dr. Kiran Bedi, Retd. IPS, Ex-Lieutenant Governor. Participants from various universities posed questions to Dr Bedi on topics such as Domestic Violence and the Law, the concept of Women Police Stations and representation of women in the police force.?Dr Bedi also touched upon the importance of ethics in Law and urged the audience not to compromise on their morals. The seminar concluded with Paper presentations by academicians, practitioners, and participants from different universities.
The third session consisted of Paper presentations by different scholars across the country. It went on in parallel sessions in three rooms.
National Law University Odisha (NLUO) was established by the Government of Odisha in the year 2008 to cater to the needs of the society in the field of law. NLUO has emerged as a leading destination for legal education in India, offering academic programmes- B.A L.L. B and B.B.A L.L. B when it started in 2009 and later also offering L.L.M and Ph.D. programmes. In order to foster a culture of research, NLUO began 17 research centres in 2014.
The objective of the university is not just to create a centre of excellence in legal education but to develop humane lawyers with integrity and contribute to the social justice mission of legal education. “Exposure Visit of Officer Trainees of Indian Railway Traffic Services (IRTS) and Indian Post and Telegraph Account and Finance Services (IP&TAFS) to Dompada Legal Aid Clinic”

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), the flagship programme of the Ministry of Education, the Cell of the University intends to enrich the five adopted villages. In furtherance of the same, the cell has been running a career counselling programme for the past two months in an attempt to educate the students about their career alternatives and their financial viability.
We conducted a programme today at Dompada, one of the adopted villages in the Cuttack district. The trainees of various job holders who passed the civil services test attended this programme. The cell’s members presented a skit outlining the value of higher education and encouraging the public to contact the cell’s counsellors if they needed any additional assistance. Furthermore, the villagers raised their concerns and questions they had in their mind and those were effectively answered by Dr. Kuntirani Padhan, our faculty advisor. The cell’s members additionally interacted with the trainees and acquired some really helpful information and guidance. The state visits experiences were also shared by the civil servants, who also appreciated the cell’s efforts to promote the general improvement of the adopted villages.
We would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Kuntirani Padhan, our faculty adviser, for her constant support and guidance which made it possible for us to undertake this?ntire?isit. Additionally, the visit would not have been possible without the coordination and facilitation of Mr. Durbala Mantry, the coordinator of the programme.
