“The 1st talk on ‘Judicial Pressures and Constitutional Courage’ “.
Greetings All,
We hope this mail finds you in good health.
We are at a point in time when the faith of the general public in institutions stands at an abyss. This has not failed to include even the Judiciary, in which people had had long-established faith and belief. It is an important moment to start a conversation on how judiciary is and can continue to be a foundational building block of our democracy – both in an attempt to understand the present state of affairs and to offer solutions. Thus, Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy in association with the Kautilya Society at National Law University Odisha brings you is organising a series of conversations titled ‘Conscience Keeper: Judiciary as the Constitutional Guardian’.<?t is a series of?our conversations spread over our?em>Constitutional Law Month. These conversations will address some of the most pressing concerns of our time, including judiciary and constitutional courage, unlawful restriction of free speech, and the nature of federalism in India today, among others.?/p>
The first talk will be on ‘Judicial Pressures and Constitutional Courage’,< on 26th November 2020 at 6:00 P.M<.
The keynote speakers for the first talk shall be:
- Justice B.N. Srikrishna (Indian Jurist and Retired Supreme Court Judge),
- ?r. Salman Khurshid (Senior Advocate and Politician) and
- ?s. Dhruti Kapadia (Solicitor and Advocate-on-Record, Supreme Court).
The virtual event will be moderated by Mr. Arghya Sengupta, Research Director, Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy.

As a part of its webinar series, Centre for Corporate Law NLUO presents a webinar on the topic ‘The homebuyers’ security under the insolvency regime<‘<, on 16th November 2020 at 5 PM.?
The speaker for the session is Mr. Swarnendu Chatterjee<. He is currently serving as Managing Associate at L&L Partners and is a practicing Advocate-on-Record in Supreme Court of India. He appears as a Counsel before NCLT, NCLAT, HCs (Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Allahabad, Calcutta) and Supreme Court.
The session will be marked by an engaging discussion on recent changes in Insolvency law and allied areas.

About the Speaker:<<
It gives us immense pleasure to announce that the interactive session will be taken up by Mr. Pallab Das<. Mr. Das is an Assistant professor of Law at Bennett University and was a former faculty at NLU Odisha. He completed his LLM from Swansea University, United Kingdom on an International Excellence Scholarship, 2015 with specialization in International Commercial and Maritime Law and; his BSL.LLB from ILS Law College, Pune where he was ranked 8th in Pune University. He got selected on scholarship and completed a Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration from Austrian Arbitration Academy, Sommerhochshule, Vienna in 2018. He has written many articles and also assisted in writing a book “Justice for Women: Legal Compendium” (2015), Odisha State Commission for Women, Government of Odisha, India. He is also the editor of the book on maritime law i.e. “Through the lens of Maritime Law: A world view” Centre for Maritime Law, National Law University Odisha (1st edn. 2020). He has also edited the 2nd edition of the book “Maritime Jurisdiction and Admiralty law in India”. His areas of interests include International Maritime Law, International Commercial and Investment Arbitration, Criminal Law, Legal Methods, Evidence Law, and Transfer of Property Act.
Prior to joining NLUO, he practiced in the High court of Odisha and also worked as a Civil Judge, Odisha Judicial Services. He ranked 5th in the Odisha Judicial Services 2013. Further, he is a qualified West law UK researcher and also a member of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London and Associate member of Asian Institute of Alternate Dispute Resolution, Malaysia.

To mark the anniversary of the adoption of India’s Constitution on Nov. 26, 1949, in 2015 the Government of India decided to observe 26th November as ‘Constitution Day’ or Samvidhan Diwas.
This year ‘Constitution Day’ is a part of year-long nationwide celebrations starting from 26th Nov. 2019?till 26th Nov. 2020 during which a number of activities with special emphasis on Fundamental Duties have been planned by UGC-Ministry of Education and Department of Justice, Government of India throughout the year with the active participation of HEIs.
