For tomorrow, i.e. 15th March 2021 we are going to have with us Prof. Dr. Vageshwari Deswal from Delhi University with us. She will be speaking on “Acid Attack as gendered violence”.

Dr. Vageshwari Deswal is a well-known academician known for her academic contribution and activism, feminist in spirit and action as well.?he is an avid writer and a regular blogger for various reputed offline and online platforms. She teaches?riminal law, family law and jurisprudence at Law Centre-II, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi.
?/span>
She is credited with the publication of more than a dozen articles and book reviews in leading Law Journals. She has prepared case materials and e-lessons for students of LL.B., LL.M. and Legal Literacy course run by Delhi University. A lifetime member of prestigious institutions such as the Indian Society of International Law and the Institute of Constitutional and Parliamentary Studies, she is also the Treasurer of All India Law Teachers Congress. She is closely associated with Gender Sensitization programmes conducted by WDC, DU and NGO Umang.

Our Guest Speaker for the Webinar is Ms. Poorvi Satija, an International Arbitration Lawyer and an Associate at White & Case LLP based in Paris, France.

About The Speaker:

Ms. Poorvi, has been involved as a coach and arbitrator in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot competition for years. Since 2017, she has also been coaching teams for the IBA-VIAC CDRC Vienna Mediation and Negotiation Competition.

Ms Poorvi graduated with a BA LLB degree from NALSAR University, Hyderabad in 2013 and pursued LLM in Dispute Resolution from Harvard Law School and is currently residing in Paris, France.?/p>

About the Topic:

Most Favored Nations (MFN) clauses are common in Bilateral Investment Treaties. However it has been a subject of varied interpretations by treaty-based arbitral tribunals. Through this webinar, the society aims to provide a better understanding about MFN in Bilateral Investment Treaties.

The Centre for Corporate Law aims at creating an effective platform of discussion and discourse on the latest issues and challenges in corporate law and other allied areas. The Centre endeavors to come up with logical solutions and create awareness among the law students and the academia.

In light of the same, we are elated to inform you that the Centre for Corporate Law shall be organising a certificate course on Practical Aspect Of Due Diligence’.

The course shall be conducted by Mr. Anshuman Vikram Singh.

Mr. Anshuman is an alumnus of National Law University Odisha (Batch of 2014). He has worked previously at SAMVAD Partners, DMD Advocates and is presently working as a Senior Associate at AZB & Partners. He is skilled in Private Equity/ Venture Capital, M&A, Corporate Restructuring, Cross-border Transactions, Real Estate, and General Corporate advisory.

ABOUT THE COURSE

Due Diligence plays a very vital role in any transactional deal, and every corporate lawyer is expected to be familiar with its process. This includes compliances to various rules and regulations spanned out across multiple areas.?The outline of the course would be shared with the participants in due time.

The Certificate Course shall consist of 2 classes (3 hours each). It would be open only for present 3rd and 4th Year students (Batches of 2022 and 2023).

Ms. Sudatta Barik (NLUO/Ph.D/2014/08) has submitted her Ph.D thesis in Law to the National Law University Odisha, Cuttack on 4th November 2020. The thesis entitled “An analysis on the role of investigation agencies and the Government to prevent corporate frauds in India: A case study on Satyam and PNB scandal” has been evaluated and approved by the external examiners. The Public Defence and Viva-Voce examination of the thesis would be conducted online on Monday, March 15, 2021 at 10.00 AM. ?/strong>

The Public Defence and Viva-Voce examination would be conducted before a Panel of internal & external examiners, faculty members and research scholars. All faculty members and research scholars are requested to be present for the public defence and Viva-Voce examination.

A brief profile of Ms. Faranaaz G. Karbhari

Ms. Karbhari is a highly respected lawyer with two decades of litigation experience, before the High Courts, Company Law Board and various Tribunals. She specialises in corporate commercial litigation and arbitration, conciliation and mediation, with significant expertise across the entire spectrum of direct and indirect taxes. She has also acted as and is routinely appointed as an arbitrator in diverse commercial disputes.

Ms. Karbhari had earlier articled with and commenced her legal career with Crawford Bayley & Co where she worked for over 15 years. Prior to founding her independent practice at Alpha Chambers, Advocates & Solicitors, in July 2016, she was the AVP Litigation for Vodafone since 2014. Ms. Faranaaz Karbhari is currently working as Counsel at HSA Advocates at their Mumbai Office.

A brief profile of Mr. Rahul P. Jain<

Mr. Jain is an Associate Counsel in the Dispute Resolution practice group of HSA Advocates. With over 12 years of experience, he specializes in commercial litigation and arbitration, and real estate transactions. In addition, he also has significant experience in indirect tax advisory and litigation, Intellectual Property Rights practices including Media & Entertainment Law and regularly appears before High Courts, City Civil Courts and tribunals, including appellate authorities. He advises Media and Entertainment clients for Films, TV Serials, Web series, Production Houses, Distributors, Writers namely Lyricists, Screenplay, Story, Dialogue, Directors, Actors etc.

2nd CLS Certificate Course ‘Supreme Court Practice and Procedure’ – April 2021<<

 

The Constitutional Law Society, National Law University Odisha shall be organizing the 2nd CLS Certificate Course in the month of April. The theme of the Certificate Course shall be: “Supreme Court: Practices and Procedure: Writ Petitions, Appeals and Special Leave Petitions”. The course instructor will be Ms. Shriya Maini (Advocate-on-Record, Supreme Court of India; Salve Scholar & Oxford BCL Graduate; Visiting Faculty, NLU Delhi). Total length of the course will be 12 hours spread across 3 weekends (exact dates of the course: 2nd – 4th April, 9th – 11th April and 17th – 18th April). Registrations for the course will start soon. There shall be a registration fee of Rs. 300. For more details about the course, kindly refer to the documents below. The classes for the certificate course shall be conducted online via Cisco WebEx.
