World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated each year for the sustenance and furtherance of Intellectual property rights awareness and developments. As a center immensely involved in the periphery and integrity of intellectual property discourse, the session, is designed to commemorate the same, with esteemed resource persons invited to give addresses on crucial issues on Intellectual Property Rights in the world.
This year’s theme for the globally celebrated day is“IP for a Better Future: Young Innovator”.<

Mr. Raghavender G.R<
Joint Secretary, Department of Justice, Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India<
Mr. Raghavender is a civil servant from Central Secretariat Service (CSS) 1988 and is currently posted as Joint Secretary, Department of Justice, Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India, New Delhi. Previously, he was the Joint Secretary in the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, from August 2015 to January 2017. He has also held additional charge of the Director-General, National Productivity Council (NPC) from November 2015 to May 2016.
Mr. Raghavender is very passionate about Intellectual Property Rights, especially Copyright and Related Rights. He worked as Registrar of Copyrights of the Indian Copyright Office from 2007 to 2014 and played a key role in the introduction of amendments to the Copyright Act in 2012 and the introduction of the Copyright Rules, 2013.

Intellectual property rights are massively prevalent in our daily lives, and as such the examination of its nuances present an important ambit in the legal and social discourse. A National Intellectual Property Awareness Mission (NIPAM) under the initiative of the Government’s “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”, was launched on 8/12/2021 under DPIIT. The pan-India ambitious mission aims to provide awareness on intellectual property and its rights to 1 million students. It aims to inculcate the spirit of creativity and innovation to students of higher education (classes 8 to 12) and ignite and inspire the students of college/Universities to innovate and protect their creations.

About Mr. Dhiren Pattnayak?
After Bachelor’s from CET, Bhubaneswar, Mr. Dhiren Pattnayak has completed his Masters in Bioinformatics from University of Delhi in the year 2015.
Subsequently, he Joined IIT Bombay TCTD LAB as a project scientist and thereafter has worked as project fellow at Giessen University and Max Planck Institute Germany.
In 2016, he joined Govt. ?f India and has six years of experience as an Examiner of Patents & Design in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt of India.
About Mr. Pritish Ranjan Pradhan<
Mr. Pritish Ranjan Pradhan has completed B.Tech in computer science and engineering from CET Bhubaneswar and M.Tech in computer science from Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) kolkata.
After a brief stint at ISRO, he joined Patent Office Kolkata in 2016 and has been working as examiner of Patents and Designs. In 2019 he was selected to attend Operational Patent Examiners Training held at Tokyo, Japan which was conducted by the Japan Patent Office. He has also six years of experience as an Examiner of Patents and Design in Govt. of India.

“2nd NLUO-PHFI Public Health Law National Moot Court Competition, 2022”

The Centre for Public Health Law of National Law University Odisha in association with the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) is conducting the “2nd NLUO PHFI Public Health Law National Moot Court Competition” from July 7th?o 10th, 2022.?We are expecting participation from law colleges and universities from across the country.
About the Moot Court Competition<
National Law University Odisha, Cuttack takes pride in pioneering the development and teaching of ‘Public Health Law’ as a specialised course in India. We offer a streamlined study of ‘Public Health Law’ as a seminar course, away from the shadow of Constitutional Law, Medicine and Law and Bioethics. While the Covid-19 pandemic has put a spotlight on just the subject there is a need for broader engagement with administrators, academicians, lawyers, and law students across the country to critically analyse the role of law in making health a realizable goal and ensuring distributive fairness in the allocation of critical health infrastructure. What better way to do it and cudgel the young minds than a moot court competition? So, with an aim to expand our reach to law students across the country and make them think and research about various nitty-gritties of byzantine legal rules and principles that form the bedrock of the public health apparatus we are organising this 2nd?HFI-NLUO Public Health Law Moot. The purpose of this moot is to armour budding lawyers with research skills and arguments on the tensions between civil liberties and states powers and duties with respect to tobacco control.
About the 1st?ublic Health Law National Moot Court Competition<
The first edition of the moot was a stellar success with the participation of 68 teams from across the length and breadth of the country. In the North, we had teams from up to Kashmir (Central University of Kashmir) to Kerala (NUALS, Kochi and GLC, Trivandrum) in the South, Gujarat in the West [GNLU, Gujarat] to Bengal [NUJS] in the East.?The teams represented National Law Universities, Central and State Government Law Department, Private Law Universities, and law colleges (both urban and local). They were judged in the preliminary rounds by a panel consisting of sitting civil judges, senior advocates, advocates before 13 different High Courts, law firm partners and associates, in-house counsels, government counsels and independent researchers. ?he?inals were judged by eminent legal luminaries and public health experts including Mr Anand Grover, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India, Dr Gagandeep Kang, India’s leading virologist and Professor, CMC Vellore, Mr Murali Neelkanthan, Partner, Amicus, Mr Sameer Sah, Partner, Khaitan & CO and Mr Warren Bruke, Senior Attorney, United States House of Representatives, Office of Legislative Counsel. The event was?lso graced by Hon’ble Justice Mr Sanjeeb Panigrahi, Judge, Orissa High Court and Dr K Srinath Reddy, President, Public Health Foundation of India. Government Law College, Mumbai won the competition and will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 21,000. They also won the citation for ‘Best Memorial’ and will be awarded a separate cash prize of Rs 10000. Runners up, NALSAR Hyderabad will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 15,000. Anshika Paul of Government Law College, Trivandrum was adjudicated the ‘Best Speaker’ and will get prize money of Rs.10000.?Other hon’ble citations were ‘Fourth Best Memorial’ to Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla, ‘Third Best Memorial’ to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University, Lucknow, ‘Second Best Memorial’ to Chanakya National Law University, Patna, ‘Third Best Speaker’ as Anagha Ramdass from NUALS, Kochi and ‘Second Best Speaker’ to Nabeel M from School of Law, University of Mysore.

- The competition will be conducted through online mode only.
- All students enrolled in a three (3) year LL.B. programme or a five (5) year LL.B. programme shall be eligible to participate in the Competition. However, only one team per institution shall be eligible to participate. Students enrolled in post-graduate or diploma courses are not eligible to participate.

University is organizing a?strong>Mental Health Ambassador Programme?n?strong>15 April 2022. It is a certificate programme where 40 persons will be trained and certified as Mental Health Ambassador of NLUO. 32 students’ volunteers from each section of UG and PG Batch and 08 staff will attend the programme. It’s a paid workshop but the University will bear the cost.??/p>
The workshop will commence from 10 AM and will end at 5 PM with lunch and two tea breaks. The venue will be the Conference Room in the Administrative Block. The details of programme and resource persons are attached for your kind perusal.?/p>

For the webinar session,?we are joined by?Professor (Dr.) Enrico Bonadio<, who is currently associated as Reader at The City Law School, where he lectures on different modules on intellectual property rights. A graduate from the University of Florence (PHD) and the University of Pisa (LLB), he is currently also an Associate Editor and Intellectual Property Correspondent of the European Journal of Risk Regulation as well as an independent member of the Editorial Board of NUART Journal.
His research plan centers around copyright security of types of articulation, including spray painting and road workmanship. He has of late co-authored the book “Non-Conventional Copyright – Do New and Non-Traditional Works Deserve Protection?” (along with Nicola Lucchi, Elgar 2018); and also the book “Cambridge Handbook of Copyright in Street Art and Graffiti” (Cambridge University Press, 2019).
Prof. Enrico is also additionally investigating IP insurance of AI and mechanical technology as part of a consortium that has been granted financing by the EU as a feature of Horizon 2020 to evaluate the area of intelligent robots in the public eye (INBOTS project). He additionally as of late composed a report on Standard Essential Patents and the Internet of Things (charged by the European Parliament). He is also qualified to practise in England and Wales as well as in Italy. He has past experience as an IP attorney for several years in top-tier international law firms and also regularly joins training and technical assistance missions organised by WIPO. Further, he is a member of ATRIP (International Association for the Advancement of Teaching and Research in Intellectual Property), BLACA (British Literary and Artistic Copyright Association) and The Law Society of England and Wales.

Be it the Lakers winning in 2020, or the Chelsea winning the Champions League. Sports have provided us an escape and a distraction from these terrible times that affected all Humanity. It has provided an opportunity to drown your sorrows in ecstasy and healed wounds of many people. After two years of the Covid-19 pandemic, we are finally back.
The Sports Committee at NLUO is organizing its annual flagship sports event – VIRAJ 2022, from 22nd to 24th April 2022. The Grand Opening Ceremony will be held on 21st April 2022. The three-day event will witness disciplines such as Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, Football, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Throwball, and Volleyball. The sports fever and thrill is coming back to the Campus, as contingents from prestigious colleges will fight tooth and nail in these very competitive events.
The overcast weather has gone way, and the new sun has dawned upon us. So come out, the fans with their roaring voices playing as an extra man and raising the morale of the players as one single NLUO family. Players, whose feet are aching to march into the arena and give all of their blood, tears, and sweat for the Ultimate Glory.
