” Centre for Public Policy, Law and Good Governance Organised a Session by Vision India Foundation”

On January 04th 2020, the Centre for Public Policy, Law and Good Governance of NLU Odisha organized a session by Vision India Foundation. The session started at 2:30 PM and was attended by first and second year students of the university. Mr. Anuj Shukla, a student of the second year, delivered the welcoming address and the introductory speech highlighting the work of the organisation and how it has been working through various awareness drives and fellowship programme to create leaders in the making.
The session was presided over by Mr. Kumar Shubham, Director of the Vision India Foundation. The theme of the session was “A Unique 11 Parameters Framework for Evaluating Governance in India”. It was an interactive session wherein Mr. Kumar Shubham talked about what governance and policy actually mean, explained policies of the present and erstwhile governments and answered queries of the audience using real life examples. During the session Mr. Kumar discussed about good governance projects, explained the thumb rules of governance and elaborated on the stakeholders involved in policy making and the parameters for judging a policy.
The session ended after a one and a half hour long discussion on good governance paradigm. The event culminated with handing over the token of gratitude to the esteemed guest by our Registrar Dr. Yogesh P. Singh.

“LexTech – Center for Law, Entrepreneurship & Innovation, NLUO Organised a?ne-day master-class on social entrepreneurship.”
LexTech- Center for Law, Entrepreneurship & Innovation conducted a One-Day Master-Class on Social Entrepreneurship on 7th January, 2020. This master class was conducted in collaboration with Youth for Sustainability. Youth for Sustainabilityis a platform by?strong>Human Circle?or the creative young minds of India to come together for experiential challenges that will broaden their mindset and move them closer to what they love doing. Their endeavour is to connect the top youth influencers with the industry leaders through an engaging platform. They have recently launched their Odisha Chapter.
The team of Human Circle invited LexTech centre for the pre-event and the opening ceremony of Odisha Chapter 2020. The pre-event had a video chat with Mr. Sonam Wangchuk, an Indian engineer, innovator and education reformists. He is the founding-director of the?tudents’ Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh?SECMOL), which was founded in 1988 by a group of students who had been in his own words, the ‘victims’ of an alien education system foisted on?adakh. He was popularised after the movie “3 idiots” for being the real life inspiration for the character “Phunsukh Wangdu”.?????/p>
The masterclass was conducted by Punyasloka Panda, an alumnus of Ashoka university explained the various nuances of Social Entrepreneurship helping creating a sustainable future. He discussed various success stories wherein regional cultures were integrated with entrepreneurship. The case studies provided a perspective on the use of cultural and regional customs & practices as an enabler to ideas. Subsequently, he conducted several activities involving networking, deliberations and idea generation directed at solving a specific social issue, thereby to cultivating and bringing out the skills required for social entrepreneurship. He concluded by laying down his future endeavours, including the Young India Challenge where he expects such ideas to be brought to fruition.

The Constitutional Society of National Law University Odisha, under the aegis of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Shri Krishna Deva Rao and the Registrar (I/C) Dr. Yogesh Pratap Singh, successfully organized a certificate course on the topic ‘Supreme Court Practice and Procedure’ under the theme ‘Quintessence of Constitution: Public Policy and Public Interest’ in collaboration with Recruitment Coordination Committee (RCC) Batch 2020 of National Law University Odisha and YuvaSansad (MPYS). There were two renowned course instructors for this Certificate Course namely Adv. Shriya Maini and Adv. Kumar Shanu, both of them being practicing Advocates in the Supreme Court of India.
The aim of this Certificate Course was to observe practices of Supreme Court in drafting and procedural formalities in the cases of Special Leave Petition (SLP), Writ Petitions (WP)and Public Interest Litigations (PIL). With the theoretical aspects already there in NLUO’s academic curriculum, it was the intention to provide the students with much-needed practical nuances to be observed in the Supreme Court procedure. Adv. Shriya Maini taught about the aspects of Special Leave Petitions and Writ Petitions while Adv. Kumar Shanu dealt with the practical technicalities of Public Interest Litigations.
183 students registered for this Certificate Course amassing a huge audience to learn more about the hands-on training provided to the students. This course was especially fruitful for students who wish to upgrade their qualification for the purpose of career specialization in civil, commercial and criminal litigation/dispute resolution and who have a keep interest in procedural laws.

“22nd October, 2019: Panel Discussion on ‘Quintessence of Constitution: Public Interest and Public Policy'”

The Constitutional Society of National Law University Odisha in collaboration with RCC (Batch of 2020) and YuvaSansad, successfully organized a Panel Discussion on 22nd October 2019 in the Seminar Hall of the University.The panel consisted of Mr. Tathagata Satpathy(Former Member of Parliament and Chief Whip of Biju Janta Dal), Adv. Kumar Shanu(Co-founder of ‘Whistle for Public Interest’), Ms. ZakiaSoman(Co-founder of Bharatiya Muslim MahilaAndolan and women’s rights activist)with Adv. Ravi Budhwani (Founder, YuvaSansad) acting as the mediator. The Panel Discussion was held on the topic ‘Quintessence of Constitution: Public Interest and Public Policy’.
The Discussion started with taking some questions from the audience regarding the questions of public policy and public interest with a major emphasis on ongoing events in the country. This enabled the valuable issues to be put forth for discussion at the outset. These issues consisted of role of political parties and party politics, personal law regulations such as Nikah-Halala and the idea of social justice. After gauging the general concerns raised by the audience, the panellists were able to focus upon those issues and give their esteemed opinions on the concerning matters.
The Panel then evaluated the struggles the society is facing right now with regards to free speech and the amendment process as a part of policy making. They provided interesting insights into the system by drawing an analogy with the system being followed in India and in other Parliament systems. The role of Right to Information in Public Policy framing was also discussed at length.
After the assertions made by the panellists and their opinions, the floor was again opened to the audience for questions. The panellists recognised those incisive questions and made full attempt to the interesting questions posed by the budding lawyers. This panel discussion was well received by the students as it ignited curiosity regarding the policy making structure and its intricate relation with public interest.
