National Law University Odisha, Cuttack successfully organised a National Online Consultation on the Enforcement of Legislation and Policy Formulation for Advancing Effective Tobacco Control in India on April 21, 2023. The consultation was a part of the Project on Tobacco Control Initiatives.
The consultation brought together about 95 participants representing various departments such as dignitaries from the Ministry of Law & Justice, advocates from the Supreme Court, State Government Departments, State Nodal Officers, NTCP, other stakeholders from the areas of NCD, Public Health, and Tobacco Control, law enforcement agencies, bodies like the Police and State and National Judicial Academy, Municipal Corporations of Cuttack, civil societies from various states, and university faculties.
The event aimed to highlight the significance of stronger policy formulation on tobacco control, discussed the best practises on compliance while sharing the challenges and lessons learned while adopting and implementing tobacco control laws in different settings. The consultation was followed by an interactive panel discussion where they shared their experiences, knowledge, and expertise on the topic.

The Green Mandate Season 2, Episode 2 was held on the campus of National Law University Odisha, on 18th April, 2023 in collaboration with Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy. The topic for the conversation was “Public participation in environmental decision-making,” which is an important issue in today’s world. The Green Mandate provides a platform for an in-depth conversation on such issues affecting current environmental challenges.?br />The discussion was between Mr. Prafulla Samantara, environmental activist and the winner of the Goldman Environmental Prize and Mr.Debadityo Sinha, Lead at Climate and Ecosystems vertical at Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy.?/p>
The conversation was fruitful, and both speakers highlighted the importance of public participation in environmental decision-making. They emphasized the need to involve local communities in the decision-making process, especially in matters related to the environment.?The discussion touched upon various issues, including climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental justice.?br />The guest speaker, Mr. Samantara shared his experiences from public participation processes in Niyamgiri hills, Mali Parbat in Koraput etc. to acquaint the audience with the realities of a public participation process. Through this he invoked the civil society to make a difference by voicing their concerns with regards to the environment.?
The Q & A session highlighted the need for a collaborative approach between different stakeholders to ensure sustainable and equitable environmental policies.

A contingent from the Lextech Centre NLUO, comprising of nine team members and two faculty advisors participated in the Y20 consultation program under the aegies of Ministry of Youth affairs and Sports, Government of India. The program organized by KIIT definitely invoked bigger responsibility, bigger ambitions for India’s G20 Presidency to accelerate new ideas and collective action. The Y20 consultation program spread out the message of “One earth, One Family. One future.
