LexTech – Centre for Law, Entrepreneurship and Innovation is a Centre of National Law University Odisha (NLUO). It aims to cultivate a rare breed of entrepreneurs by incubating and mentoring innovative startups thereby creating a transformational learning environment for students. 
The Centre aids law students in becoming innovative and sparking their interest in tech-entrepreneurship and law. The Centre in continuance of its goals has organized several talk sessions with serial entrepreneurs, start-up coaches and corporate executives. LexTech has also organized the Google Start-Up Weekend in the past to promote student-led startups. 
We are always on the lookout for opportunities to collaborate with like-minded individuals/organizations that can help further our goals. Event:  First Article Writing Competition 2024 in collaboration with Nishith Desai Associates as our Associate Sponsor, Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy as our Publication Partner and SCC Times as our Media Partner. 
About the Event:  This competition aims to foster discourse and exploration of innovative applications within the intersection of law and technology. Participants are encouraged to delve into diverse aspects of legal technology, such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, cybersecurity, and data analytics, and their implications for the legal landscape. The theme, “Emerging Areas in Legal Tech and Innovation,” covers several sub-themes: navigating legal challenges in cross-border data transfers under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDPA), evaluating the impact of India’s Dark Patterns Guidelines on deceptive design, and analyzing the legal implications of deepfakes and AI-generated content. Other critical areas include a critical examination of the Reserve Bank of India’s guidelines for digital lending, the debate on the 28% Goods and Services Tax (GST) on online gaming in India, and the legal conundrum of ownership and authorship in AI-generated art. Participants are invited to choose from these sub-themes and contribute their insights, analyses, and innovative solutions to the dynamic and evolving field of legal technology, addressing contemporary challenges and envisioning future advancements in the legal tech landscape. The top entries will be awarded internship opportunities and publication of their submissions.

Event:  Single Credit Course on Legal Foundations for Technology, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship: Navigating the Digital Era by Prof. Nikhil Naren 
About the Event:  The three-day credit course, under the guidance of Prof. Nikhil Naren, an Assistant Professor at Jindal Global Law, Sonipat, Haryana, provided attendees with a thorough examination of topics pertinent to the contemporary digital landscape. Commencing with an in-depth exploration of data protection principles and regulations, participants acquired a nuanced understanding of privacy laws, with a particular emphasis on safeguarding personal data. The three-day course culminated with a written evaluation, providing participants an opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of the covered topics. The evaluation featured detailed and logical questions, allowing attendees to effectively apply their knowledge. This unique credit course offered participants a comprehensive overview of key topics including data protection, artificial intelligence, online brand management, and cybercrimes, ultimately empowering them to navigate the intricate legal and ethical landscapes of the digital age.

About the Event:  This virtual session featured Mr. Tushar Mehrishi, a seasoned legal counsel renowned for his stint at Google. Reflecting on his journey, Tushar shared insights from his college days to his impactful role at Google, offering valuable advice to aspiring legal professionals regarding placement opportunities and innovative business ideas. Delving into his experiences at Google, he navigated through complex legal terrains, highlighting the challenges and rewards of working for a tech giant. Currently enjoying a more relaxed lifestyle in Goa, Tushar emphasized the significance of work-life balance and pursuing personal interests beyond corporate realms. Providing practical guidance to law students, he stressed the importance of networking, continuous learning, and exploring diverse career paths within the legal sector. The session culminated in anengaging Q&A session, where attendees delved into topics ranging from legal career trajectories to the future of technology law, leaving them inspired and motivated to embark on their legal journeys

Event:  TechTales: From Code to Courtroom – Talk show series on AI and Law, FinTech, Data Privacy, TMT and Online Gaming 
About the Event:  In August 2023, LexTech launched “Tech-Tales: From Code to Courtroom,” an innovative lecture series exploring the complex intersection of technology and law. This engaging talk show format has become a beacon of information, dissecting emerging legal fields such as TMT, online gaming and betting laws, FinTech, artificial intelligence, and data privacy. Each episode delves into the nuances of these fields through in-depth discussions featuring expert guests from both the legal and tech domains. This initiative distinguishes NLUO as a trailblazer in the field of legal education, venturing into uncharted territory untouched by other law universities. With four successful sessions already conducted, Tech-Tales has garnered enthusiastic participation from students across NLUO and other colleges. The series has demonstrably advanced the objectives of both the student body and the faculty, fostering a dynamic learning environment that embodies NLUO’s forward-thinking spirit.

Event:  Release of Revamped Newsletter 
About the Event:  With efforts to shift from entrepreneurship to technology and law, the news was collected from around the globe and made it accessible to everyone. At LexTech, our content curators and designers have put up the July 2023 Edition of the Monthly Newsletters to further this goal. The revamped newsletter had enhanced content, and a fresh design and received good reviews from multiple personalities working in big law firms. Their understanding of the law helped the newsletter become better than the previous attempts. The student body at National Law University Odisha was provided with the newsletter, helping bring Tech Law news to their fingertips.

Event:  Start-up Talk by Alumnus Prakhar Mishra 
About the Event:  Prakhar Mishra was invited as a guest to encourage and inculcate the start-up culture among the students of National Law University Odisha. During this insightful session, Mr. Prakhar Mishra shared his journey of entrepreneurship, including the challenges he faced, the resources he utilized, and the strategies he employed to establish his startup while balancing the demands of his studies. The session provided the students with invaluable guidance, inspiration, and real-life examples of what it takes to transform an idea into a successful venture. Event : MOU with Startup Odisha 
About the Event : National Law University, Odisha has signed an MOU with Startup Odisha, Government of Odisha on 01.12.22 at Make in Odisha Conclave – 2022. the main objective of the MOU is to provide all types of legal assistance to Startup Odisha, conduct seminars, workshops, Startup Weekends, training Programmes in collaboration with Startup Odisha, Collaborative research and teaching, research findings and publications. The MOU will be in effect for a period of 3 years from 01.12.22. The terms and conditions of the MOU will be executed through Lextech – Centre for Law, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, NLUO.

Event:  LexTech under the Institute Innovation Council (IIC), MHRD has successfully conducted a Bootcamp at National Law University Odisha in collaboration with Start-up Odisha Yatra 2.0 and KIIT TBI. 
About the Event:  Bootcamp was in continuation of Start-up Yatra 2.0 van awareness. The resource persons from Start-up Odisha and KIIT TBI encouraged the students to pitch their ideas and share knowledge on how to draw the parameters while creating ideas among the students of National Law University Odisha. Around 150 students attended the Boot camp and 19 teams presented their ideas before the panelist constituted by Odisha Start-up Yatra 2.0. NLUO has pitched the highest number of startup ideas in the Cuttack district.

Event:  LexTech sharing the vision of our Honourable Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik organised Startup Odisha Yatra 2.0 in its campus. 
About the Event:  The Start-up Odisha van reached National Law University Odisha’s campus on 02nd  September 2022. LexTech, NLUO. Start-up Odisha Yatra 2.0 has been initiated by Odisha’s Chief Minister, Shri Naveen Patnaik, a flagship initiative of Start-up Odisha. It aims at scouting grassroots innovators, and women entrepreneurs, and promoting entrepreneurship among the youth. The Yatra will cover over 100 educational institutions in 30 districts over a period of 60 days.

About the Event:  LexTech- Centre for Law, Entrepreneurship and Innovation hosted its flagship event Google Startup Weekend from the 3rd to 5th August 2018.Startup Weekend is a community-powered network. It involved a 54-hour event designed to provide superior experimental education for technical and non-technical entrepreneurs. Each Startup Weekend event has been organised by local volunteers who manage all ground-level aspects of putting together the event. The panel of judges consisted of Mr. Ramnauj Mukherjee (CEO, iPleaders), Avelo Roy (CEO, Kolkata Ventures), and Digbijoy Chakroborty (Director, Frost & Sullivan).

About the Event:  LexTech – Centre for Law, Entrepreneurship & Innovation organised A leadership talk with Avelo Roy on 06th June 2018. Avelo Roy, a renowned entrepreneur, and speaker who has a great background and high credentials in the field of Entrepreneurship had an interactive session with students and faculties. Mr. Avelo Roy an engineer who followed his passion, became an entrepreneur and inspired millions with his bold decision. He started his first startup when he was just 19 years old while he was a student at Illinois Institute of Technology and turned his startup into a million-dollar valuation by the time he was 22. He has won more than 70 awards in the US, Canada and India and has been honoured by the California State Senate for his contributions in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship.

About the Event:  LexTech – Centre for Law, Entrepreneurship & Innovation presented BizTalk 2017, a talk show interaction with India’s most dynamic entrepreneurs. The event was held on the 15th of October 2017 at National Law University, Odisha. It aims to move away from traditional monologue-style guest lectures and try and get an insight into the minds of true innovators. BizTalk brought in a greater sense of authenticity where in the goal was to facilitate a candid discussion between the guests about their thoughts and ideas, successes and failures.

About the Event:  A brainstorming session was held by LexTech. It was open to all students of our college Our Coordinator Yash Bagal explained the fundamentals of Pitching and Investor Psychology. He spoke about opening his startup and the harsh realities that are faced by enthusiastic entrepreneurs as they try to rope in investors to fund their projects. He gave tips regarding the most effective steps of setting up one’s business which he had learnt from his personal experience.

About the Event:  LexTech – Center for Law, Entrepreneurship & Innovation in collaboration with the Asian Institute of Family Managed Business (AIFMB) is organising a webinar on “Career Planning and Entrepreneurship” on Monday,The webinar was addressed by Professor Parimal Merchant, Advisor, Asian Institute of Family Managed Business (AIFMB). He is considered to be one of the leading international authorities on Family Business. Professor Merchant is the Global Head of the FMB program at the SP Jain School of Global Management. He is also a pioneer in cross-border knowledge sharing, having started an FMB program in Pakistan, he is soon to introduce it in many other Asian countries particularly Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Vietnam and South Korea.
