Field Survey on compliance of The Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act around school, hospitals, and in market area of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. The survey is aimed at investigating the compliance of various provisions of the Act regarding sale and advertisement.

Event: 3rd edition of NLUO PHFI Public Health Law National Moot Court Competition
About the Event: The purpose of this moot is to armour budding lawyers with research skills and arguments on the growing tussle between the public health issue of obesity and the private corporate interest to push for food which may be harmful to human health.

Event: Guest Lecture by Dr. Warren Burke on Public Health Law: Universal Themes
About the Event: The lecture provided the students of Madhusudan Law University and University Law College, Utkal University a cursory glance into the domain of public health law that they can take up for research and practice, academically and professionally.

Event: 2nd edition of NLUO PHFI Public Health Law National Moot Court Competition
About the Event: The competition witnessed a participation of 30 teams from universities/colleges/law schools from across the nation. The moot proposition was on the subject of tobacco control and ban vis-à-vis the right to trade and commerce of the tobacco industry.

Event: 1st Edition of Essay Writing Competition on Public Health Law, 2022
About the Event: This essay competition seeks to further the discourse on contemporary topics related to the field of Public Health Law, its increased importance in the midst of a Global Pandemic and at the same time, its correlation with Fundamental Rights & other areas of law. Participants of this Essay competition will get the opportunity to win cash prizes, publications, and merit certificates from the Centre.

Event: Guest lecture by Shantanu Mukherjee on “Lessons from the pandemic: Is IP a barrier to public health?”
About the Event: Vaccines promise a hope to end the pandemic. But the limitations on manufacturing capabilities amidst a web of intellectual property and reluctance of pharam companies to share the technology have raised concerns about negative impact of IP in access to medicines. To know the nitty-gritties of these issues, CPHL is hosted a two-day lecture series by Shantanu Mukherjee.

Event: Guest Lecture by Dr. Chandrakant Lahriya on “Health Policies and Systems”
About the Event: The Centre for Public Health Law organised a virtual guest lecture on Health Policies and Systems. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Chandrakant Lahriya. Dr Lahriya is a physician-epidemiologist and a public policy and health systems expert and co-author of “Till We Win: India’s fight against the Covid-19 pandemic”.

Event: 1ST NLUO PHFI Public Health Law National Moot Court Competition
About the Event: The Centre successfully conducted India’s first public health moot. The four-day long 1st NLUO PHFI Public Health Law National Moot Court Competition moot was focused on the issue of compulsory vaccination and immunity to vaccine developers and manufacturers along with ancillary issues of federalism in the context of Public Health. 62 teams from National Law Universities, Central and State Government Law Department’s, Private Law Universities and law colleges participated in the moot.

Event: Expert Discussion on Draft COTPA Amendment Bill, 2020
About the Event: A national expert consultation was organised on the draft Cigarette and the other Tobacco Products Act Amendment Bill 2020 on 27th January, 2021 in collaboration with The Union. The Centre submitted comments on the same to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
