The National Law University Odisha, Cuttack (NLUO) established the Centre for Maritime Law in 2015 with an aim to build a centre of excellence and research in the field of maritime law in India. The Centre works to promote teaching, research, training, and extension activities in the area concerning the law of the sea, maritime trade and practices, maritime safety, maritime insurance, marine environment and polices, and maritime labour linked with the other coastal/non-land lock regions in India for the enhancement of the shipping and maritime clusters. The centre aims to provide excellent platform for interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teaching, research and trainings in become the Centre of Excellence for Maritime Studies in India.
