Webinar Series: “Navigating the Legal Career: Expert Insights” I MBA after Law

The Internship Committee of National Law University Odisha (NLUO) secures internship opportunities across various sectors of the legal profession for the NLUO students, organizes informative sessions, seminars, and webinars. These events allow students to engage with industry professionals, gain relevant insights, and cultivate key skills. Recently, on 28th September 2024, the Internship Committee successfully hosted the third session of its webinar series, “Navigating the Legal Career: Expert Insights,” from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm. The session, conducted virtually via Google Meet, centered on the topic of pursuing an MBA after law, offering crucial guidance for law graduates exploring alternative career paths.
The guest speaker for the session was Mr. Vivek Sridhar, an accomplished alumnus of NLU Odisha (Batch of 2013-18). Currently serving as a Senior Advisor in the Capital Projects Group at Metrolinx in Toronto, Canada, Mr. Sridhar brings a wealth of experience. After earning his BBA LLB from NLU Odisha, he pursued a Master’s in Business Law from NLSIU, followed by an MBA from the Ivey Business School at Western University, Canada. His professional journey, spanning leading law firms in India to his current advisory role in a global infrastructure project, provided invaluable insights for aspiring legal professionals considering an MBA.
With approximately 35 participants in attendance, the interactive session explored various aspects of pursuing an MBA after completing a law degree, including insights on time management between academics and extracurricular activities, the importance of developing critical skills for success in the legal and business fields, and the process of selecting a specialization in management and law. Discussions also covered how market trends influence specialization choices, effective use of electives, and building business acumen to complement legal expertise for management roles. The speaker shared advice on bridging the gap between legal and business mindsets, career opportunities in India and abroad for law graduates with MBAs, and the distinct advantages of holding dual degrees in law and business. The session provided valuable guidance for NLUO students aspiring to pursue an MBA, particularly in terms of building profiles for international business schools and understanding the unique contributions that law graduates bring to management roles.
