Double Credit Course on Gender and Law
07 Jan 2026
The National Law University Odisha (NLUO), Cuttack, in collaboration with its Gender Sensitisation Committee (GSC), is organising a Double Credit Course on ‘Gender and Law’. The course is designed to offer an interdisciplinary and practice-oriented understanding of gender justice within the legal framework.
The course shall be conducted in online mode and will span a total duration of 32 hours, tentatively scheduled from 19th January to 15th February 2026. The course includes a mandatory evaluation component in MCQ format, to be conducted in the first week of March 2026.
Background to the Theme:
The intersection of gender and law is an evolving field that critically examines how legal systems shape, regulate, and respond to gendered realities. While constitutional guarantees promise equality and non-discrimination, lived experiences often reveal structural gaps and systemic biases. This course seeks to bridge the gap between legal theory and social practice by engaging with gender as a lived, institutional, and legal concern.
The course adopts an interdisciplinary approach, drawing from constitutional law, sociology, public policy, and feminist theory. Through case studies, reflective discussions, and problem-based learning, participants will engage with contemporary issues such as reproductive rights, gender-based violence, workplace harassment, and the intersection of gender with technology and digital governance.
About the Institution:
The NLUO was established under Act 4 of 2008 by the Odisha State Legislature with the vision of advancing learning, teaching, research, and dissemination of legal knowledge.
