Kartavya- 1st NLUO-SMC State Level Video Making Competition Theme: Fundamental Duties

National Law University Odisha being the coordinating university for the state of Odisha for the 70th Constitutional Day Yearlong Celebration in order to sensitize, cherish and abide by the noble ideas- the fundamental duties enshrined under the Indian Constitution is organizing a state-level video making competition on fundamental duties. The first of its kind competition has a total cash prize of over Rs. 14,000 including certificate of excellence and merit. 

The Competition is open for all Undergraduates and Post-Graduate students from any recognized University/Colleges across the state of Odisha [except  National Law University Odisha]

The Eligible Participant can register themselves for the competition by mailing a scanned copy of the duly filled form [in Annexure A] along with scanned copy of their valid Identity Card(s) issued by their respective college/university [attached in the same mail] on or before 11:59 PM, 14th March, 2020 at smc@nluo.ac.in The last date for submission of the video is 4th April, 2020. “Centre for Maritime Law, NLUO is organising its 1st Academic Guest Lecture on January 31, 2020”.

The Centre for Maritime Law, National Law University Odisha is delighted to invite Prof. (Dr.)  Proshanto Mukherjee, Professor Emeritus, World Maritime University for an Academic Guest Lecture on topics “Historical Evolution of Admiralty Jurisdiction and Law” and “Law of Collisions at Sea”. The Centre aims to deliberate on a latest aspect of Maritime law and get enlightened by his insightful words.

The guest lecture will be held on 31st January 2020 between 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. The venue for the same is Seminar Hall, Second Floor, Academic Block. The Centre cordially invites all the faculty members and the students to attend the same.

A brief profile of Prof. (Dr.) Proshanto Mukherjee:

Prof. Proshanto K. Mukherjee is the former Vice President Research, Director of Doctoral Program and ITF Professor of Maritime Safety and Environmental Protection at WMU. He served as Co-Director of the WMU/Lund University joint LL.M. program. He is an Honorary Research Fellow of Swansea University (SU); Professor of Law at Dalian Maritime University, China; Visiting Professor at the Graduate School of Human Resource Development of Chung-Ang University, South Korea; Visiting Professor at National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata, India, and is Chancellor of CINEC Maritime Campus, Colombo, Sri Lanka. He has been doctoral supervisor and examiner for several Ph.D. candidates around the world.

He spent 16 years in a seafaring career which culminated to the rank of Master before he entered legal studies and the legal profession. He has served as Senior Adviser, Maritime Policy and International Affairs in the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Canada, and later as Senior Deputy Director and Professor of Maritime Law at the International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI) in Malta. He was formerly IMO Legal Adviser for the Caribbean Region. He has drafted shipping and marine environmental legislation for over twenty-eight jurisdictions around the world. He is a member of the Canadian Maritime Law Association and of the CMI Working Group on Fair Treatment of Seafarers.

Mr. Proshanto is the author of the book “Maritime Legislation” and lead author of the Fourth Edition of “Farthing on International Shipping”. He has numerous publications to his credit on virtually every subject in maritime law.

The Centre in collaboration with Young India Challenge will be organizing a one-day master-class on social entrepreneurship on 7th January 2020 (Tuesday), 10 AM. The workshop will give us an understanding of Social Entrepreneurship and how one can become a Social Entrepreneur.

Young India Challenge is a platform by Human Circle for the creative young minds of India to come together for experiential challenges that will broaden their mindset and move them closer to what they love doing. Their endeavour is to connect the top youth influencers with the industry leaders through an engaging platform. They have recently launched their Odisha Chapter. The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of HRD, in association with UGC, is organizing?/span>11 rounds of National Essay Competition?/span>as part of the year long Fundamental Duties Awareness campaign of Govt of India to commemorate the 70th year of adoption of our Constitution. There will be?/span>one National Essay Competition every month, based on one Fundamental Duty. All students enrolled in any Higher Educational Institution in India are eligible to participate.

Centre for Maritime Law, NLUO is pleased to announce the International Conference on Maritime Law, 2020 in collaboration with HP Law-Advocates, Mumbai to be held on February 22nd & 23rd, 2020. The Conference intends to act as an intellectual, productive, learning space for all academia, researchers, students, specialists, industrialists and enthusiasts of Maritime Law.

 

About the Conference

The Conference is one of its kind and is being conducted on an international level with the aim of assessing the application and regulation of the current international and national maritime legal regime vis a vis the ever-growing maritime industry. This requires a platform for dialogue, resolution of issues and innovation that the Conference intends to offer.

The Centre thus decided on the theme of the Conference to be “Reshaping the New Horizons:

  • Furthermore, there shall be awards for Best and Second-best Presenters which shall comprise a cash reward.
  • Top 15 research papers shall be published in the form of a book and an additional 10 research papers shall be published on the Centre’s Blog and Certificates of Publication for the same shall be provided.
  • All the Presenters and Attendees will receive a Certificate of Presentation and Certificate of Participation
