About Dr. Rangin P. Tripathy

Rangin works in the area of constitutional governance, civil liberties, criminal law and gender rights. His current research focuses on the functioning of institutions within constitutional democracies and the way they affect realization of democratic rights.

His doctoral thesis was the first of its kind in India focusing on the performance evaluation of judges in Indian higher judiciary. He completed his Fulbright Post-Doctoral Research Scholarship from Harvard Law School where researched on the competing methods of appointing judges in democracies.

He has completed two research projects funded by the Department of Justice, Government of India in the area of judicial reforms. One was on performance appraisal schemes in Indian lower judiciary and the other one was on functioning of Lok Adalats as an alternative to traditional litigation.  At present, I am heading two internationally funded research projects in the area of tobacco control and domestic violence.

About Dr. Dolly Jabbal

A teacher of Banking & Property Law, with 10 years experience at NLU, Dolly Jabbal is the author of 2 books and 8 articles and has developed strong inter-disciplinary model for study of Law. Her approach to the study of Law has been a healthy mix of classical literature and case study method, which not only helps in building in-depth knowledge but also teaches functional aspect to the students of law to make them intellectually able and market ready. About Dr. Yogesh Pratap Singh

He is presently on lien to serve as the Vice-Chancellor of National Law University Tripura.

Yogesh Pratap Singh received his LL.M. from National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore and LL.B. from the University of Allahabad. His doctoral thesis entitled “Contribution of Dissenting Opinions of Indian Supreme Court Judges to the Indian Legal System: A Critical Evaluation” is recognized as a significant contribution to the understanding of voting patterns of judges in the Supreme Court of India. This work was later published as book entitled “Judicial Dissent and Indian Supreme Court: Enriching Constitutional Discourse” by Thomson Reuters. Hon’ble Justice Dr. D.Y. Chandrachud, Judge, Supreme Court of India authored a scholastic foreword for the book. Dr. Singh served as Deputy Registrar, Research in the Supreme Court of India (on deputation) from May 2016 to October 2018.

Dr. Yogesh participated in the 39th Annual Session on International Human Rights Law organized by International Institute of Human Rights (IIHR) Strasbourg, France. Dr. Yogesh wasalso part of Ciedhu programme in France conducted for University Teachers. Prior to joining National Law University Odisha in 2009, when it was established, he was part of the founding team of KIIT Law School, KIIT University, Bhubaneswar. Dr. Singh has also worked as a Legal Researcher in the Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra (RLEK), Dehradun.

Prof. Singh has presented numerous papers on constitutional, social and legal issues at various national and international seminars. He constantly writes in the field of law in reputed law chronicles, national and international law journals. Dr. Singh also writes for the general public, contributing recurrently to The New Indian Express, The Statesman, The Tribune, Deccan Herald, The Wire etc.

About Dr. Sheela Rai

Sheela Rai has done her LL.B. from DDU Gorakhpur University, LL.M. and Ph.D. from National Law School of India University, Bangalore. She started her career as Research Assistant (2002) and thereafter as lecturer in NUJS, West Bengal in 2004. She joined HNLU, Raipur as Associate Professor in 2008. She is working in NLUO since 2013. She has also worked in CUTS-International and Amity University Jaipur. She has published four books and articles in national and international journals and edited volumes.

Professor of Law Ph.D. (NLSIU) 2009, LL.M. (2002), LL.B. (1996).

About Dr. Priyanka Anand

Dr. Priyanka Anand is a distinguished Associate Professor of Law at the National Law University Odisha (NLUO), Cuttack. With an impressive academic background, Dr. Anand holds a Ph.D. in Law from The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata. Her doctoral thesis, “Constitutional Review of National Security Legislations in India: Analyzing the Judicial Approach,” showcases her profound expertise in constitutional law and national security. She earned her LL.M. in Corporate Law and Governance from NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, where she topped her specialization, and her B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) from Chanakya National Law University, Patna, where she was a university topper with the second rank.

Dr. Anand’s primary research interests lie in Taxation Laws and Gender Laws. Her scholarly contributions include numerous publications in prestigious national and international journals on topics such as global minimum corporate tax, internet access as a human right, investor-state arbitration, and various facets of gender and social discrimination. Her edited book, “Socio-Legal Androcentrism and Gender Inequalities,” published by Eastern Book Company, is a testament to her commitment to addressing gender issues through legal scholarship.

At NLUO, Dr. Anand teaches a wide range of subjects, including Direct Taxation, Corporate Taxation, International Taxation, Indirect Tax Laws, and Personal Law. Her courses are known for integrating theoretical knowledge with practical insights, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of complex legal issues. She has also served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Human Rights Law Journal at NLUO, further contributing to the academic community’s discourse on critical human rights issues.

Dr. Anand’s dedication to gender equity is reflected in her active engagement with the National Commission for Women (NCW). She has spearheaded several NCW-sponsored initiatives, including national seminars on the efficiency and effectiveness of Mahila Thanas (women’s police stations), women’s roles in corporate decision-making, and challenges faced by sex workers and their children. Her leadership in these areas highlights her commitment to improving the status and rights of women in India.

Additionally, Dr. Anand has directed an NCW-sponsored project on conducting a Women Safety Audit in Tier-II cities of India, focusing on Asansol, West Bengal. This project, completed in July 2024, underscores her ongoing efforts to enhance women’s safety and security in urban areas. She has also organized regional consultations on the review of criminal laws to improve the status of women, demonstrating her advocacy for legal reforms that promote gender justice.

About Dr. Mayank Tiwari

Dr. Mayank Tiwari is an Assistant Professor of Law at National Law University Odisha. He is a fellow member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India. Dr. Tiwari took part in a research as a Visiting Research Fellow with the University of Warwick in the School of Law under Visiting Research Fellowship Programme for Indian National Law Schools from 22 nd January 2024 – 4 th March 2024. The fellowship was awarded by University of Warwick, United Kingdom. He has done his Ph.D. on “Protection of Shareholders’ Interest and the Law: An Analytical Study” from Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala. Having experience of the industry as a Company Secretary in a listed company, he joined the academics in 2013. Before joining NLUO, he worked with Guru Nanak Dev University Regional Campus, Jalandhar. He has also completed three fully sponsored projects. Dr. Tiwari has chaired many sessions as resource person in training programmes of professionals and officers. He has also authored many research papers.
