Cultural

The Cultural Committee, popularly known as ‘The Cult Crew’ is one of the activity-based committees at NLUO. Unlike most of the other committees, Cult Crew attempts to cater to the non-academic interests of the students in law school. It endeavours to facilitate the cultural and creative streaks of the student body by organising a bunch of energy-ridden and absolutely fun intra/inter-collegiate events to make the students of NLUO feel at home and to lighten and brighten the environment even during the hectic curriculums. The committee hosts the flagship inter college Fest “KAIRAAN” and the vibrant intra college fest “HUNAR.” Along with that Cultural committee is active throughout the year organising various events which include Independence Day, Republic Day and various other open mic events & games

Activities and Initiatives:
Hunar – Diwali, a highly anticipated festival, is celebrated with zest by the Cult Crew through our flagship event, Hunar. This event, held during the odd semester, provides a break from academics, adorning the college campus with lights. Hunar includes a campus-wide “Treasure Hunt” and spirited Antakshari, showcasing students’ musical abilities. The climax of the fest features a dynamic stage hosting electrifying performances and a lively DJ Night. The annual “Cult Night” concludes the festivities harmoniously. In 2019, the event expanded to include “Bhukkad,” a successful food fest where students and teachers presented diverse stalls, creating a joyous atmosphere filled with culinary delights and games.

Kairaan – Kairaan is the premier cultural festival of National Law University Odisha. Attracting participation from across India, including prominent institutions, Kairaan showcases renowned artists such as Ritviz, Lost Stories and TRAP, drawing a crowd of thousands.

Employing innovative strategies, the organising committee and volunteers orchestrate flash mobs and interactive contests to expand the festival’s influence, resonating with colleges throughout Odisha. The event features a multitude of culinary delights, with NLUO students unveiling their culinary and entrepreneurial prowess.

Kairaan offers diverse experiences, from exhilarating stage competitions encompassing dance-offs, musical performances, and dramatic expressions, to engaging off-stage events like street plays addressing social issues, and immersive treasure hunts spread across the campus. Meaning “journey,” Kairaan provides an unforgettable three-day escapade, guided by dedicated committee members and faculty advisors. The 2023 edition marked a significant milestone, but as its motto suggests, future Kairaan festivals aim to be larger, more impressive, and even bolder, promising participants a lifetime of cherished memories.

Independence Day – Every year, the 15th of August celebrations are organised and hosted by the first-year batch with great enthusiasm. The Cult Crew assists them by screening participants, shortlisting performances, and making logistical arrangements for the main event. The campus premises are creatively decorated in the tri-colour by the first years. After the flag hoisting, a function consisting of singing, dancing, speeches, poetry recital and street play is performed around the theme of independence and patriotism.

Republic Day – On 26th January every year, the Cult Crew organises an exclusive event filled with patriotic songs, enriching dance performances, motivational speeches, powerful poetry, and a street play, illustrating the strong patriotism amongst the students in NLUO.

Mehfil –  Mehfil is a self-paced musical night wherein the floor is open for students to perform songs, shayari, poetry, etc.
