Vice Chancellor’s Message

Prof. (Dr.) Srikrishna Deva Rao
Vice-Chancellor, NLUO

I am delighted to welcome you to NLU Odisha. Located on the banks of two rivers with green foliage of Naraj, it provides an excellent academic ambiance that nurtures young minds to critical legal scholarship in the atmosphere of modern Gurukul in the natures lap. The University is determined to move to greater heights under the mentorship of our beloved Visitor Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dipak Misra, Judge, Supreme Court of India and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Amitava Roy, Chief Justice, High Court of Orissa and Chancellor of NLUO.

Legal education offers an exciting opportunity for learning and professional development. Law is inherently inter-disciplinary and shaped by understanding of knowledge and perspectives from other disciplines. The academic curriculum, pedagogy and teaching methods at NLU Odisha, make coordinated efforts to ensure holistic perspective among the students. The faculty of NLUO includes prominent scholars representing diverse fields of Law coupled with visiting Professors, Adjunct Professors including eminent Lawyers and Judges to provide comprehensive understanding of the Law.

I believe, students, teachers and staff are the three prominent pillars of University. Building teamwork, sharing a common vision and working together would certainly make a perceptible difference in the growth and progress of the University. Teaching, Research and Community Action is the three basic aims of Law Schools. We are focusing on various contemporary legal issues through our research centres. I want to mention here that NLUO has received three years grant from the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice for the project on Access to Justice for Mariginalised People and Socially Relevant Education. Promoting Rule of Law and providing access to justice for all are the perambulatory promises. They are important for protection of human rights, sustainable economic progress and overall development of the society. ‘Dharma resides in truth’ is our motto and it is our constant endeavour to fight for truth and ensure human rights to all. The students of NLUO should develop noble attributes of law student to be ‘an aristocrat in thought and yearning for leaning’. In the words of our visitor, ‘A student of Law must fight for “Lokdharma” as well as “Rajdharma” till his death.’ Thus, I would like to invite all of you to take this challenge, create history and be a responsible lawyer-citizen. Let us join in this challenging experience to maximize the benefits and enjoy the global critical citizenship.VC-Sig
